DESCRIPTION:This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundam
 entals of land navigation. Students will learn how to confidently use a co
 mpass\, understand its anatomy\, and apply essential techniques such as pa
 ce counting and distance measurement. The class covers orienteering withou
 t a map\, reading different types of maps\, and interpreting marginal data
 .\n\n Key skills include adjusting for declination\, terrain association\,
  and working with the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) to accurately 
 locate points on a map. Students will also learn how to match the map and 
 compass\, utilize navigation tools\, plan routes effectively\, and maintai
 n travel logs to “stay found” in the field.\n\n By the end of the course\,
  participants will have the foundational skills needed to navigate in a va
 riety of environments with confidence and accuracy.\n\n Limited to 24 Stud
 ents \n\n The registration deadline is 2 weeks prior to class start date. 
 \n\n Must be at least 13 years of age to attend the class. Any student und
 er the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult that is registered for th
 is class.\n\n We will Navigate over variable terrain daily in this class s
 o being able to walk comfortably for 2-6 miles a day should be considered

 arking area.\n\n Water will be available from jugs located in Base Camp. W
 e continually check the water supply to make sure it is readily available.
