SUMMARY:Coptic Bookbinding: the Original Codex\, with Anneka Baird
URL:https://feralskills.com/events/coptic-bookbinding-the-original-codex-wi
 th-anneka-baird-2026-11-20
STATUS:CONFIRMED
DESCRIPTION:Coptic Bookbinding was developed by the Egyptian Copts in the 2
nd century A.D. and represents the earliest known form of a true codex. Th
is multi-section\, non-adhesive binding features an exposed spine which re
veals the decorative\, braid-like sewing of the binding -- commonly known
as a chain stitch. These books lay flat when opened\, making them easy to
write in and an ideal candidate for journals and notebooks. This class wil
l include a brief introduction to material considerations and each partici
pant will bind a book to take home. Words from past participants "Instruct
or took care to explain concepts multiple times and in different ways so e
veryone felt supported. It was fun to meet people and learn a new craft to
gether. The environment was very welcoming for beginners\, so I felt comfo
rtable asking for help and making mistakes." "It was concise\, interesting
\, and informative. The instructor was willing to work with each student t
o make sure they were able to understand and complete the project. I had a
really great time\, worth the 3 hour drive." Interested in more bookbindi
