DESCRIPTION:In this course\, learn to carve decorative butter molds and mak
 e a variety of butters from scratch. Because why not have fancy butter? Ov
 er three days\, we will draw inspiration from historic butter mold designs
  to create at least two butter molds. Using chip carving knives and gouges
 \, we’ll spruce up our molds with simple and elegant designs. In addition 
 to woodworking\, we’ll explore culinary creativity as we craft a variety o
 f butters\, including salted\, unsalted\, cultured\, and compounded. Class
  will be structured to encourage a relaxed pace that builds in time to con
 nect with fellow students while enjoying treats that are improved through 
 the generous application of butter. Students will leave with multiple butt
 er molds and a variety of butters. The materials fee includes butter-makin
 g supplies\; a nominal additional cost (~$5)\, depending on the size of th
 e butter mold students select\, may apply. Students ages 14+ may register 
 for this course independently\; no carving experience is necessary. Gluten
  sensitivity can be accommodated\; unfortunately\, lactose sensitivity can
 not be accommodated for this course. Required Tools Please bring home bake
 d goods to share if you can. If you have a gluten allergy\, please bring y
 our favorite crackers and baked goods that will be improved with butter. A
  chip carving knife (if you don't have a chip carving knife email me at ct
 ernes@northhouse.org as I can either provide one for your use or one for y
 ou to purchase at class) Optional Tools Please bring any butter making too
 ls you might own. Various gouges will be provided for use in the class\, b
 ut please bring any wood carving gouges and chip carving knives you use.
