DESCRIPTION:Finding mushrooms in nature is a treasure hunt! Join us for a f
 ull day of learning about the wild mushrooms of Western Washington. During
  this workshop\, participants will gain helpful identification skills\, ec
 ological insights\, and a newfound confidence and joy in finding common mu
 shrooms in the wild. With a basis of knowledge of mushroom traits\, tree a
 ssociations\, morphology\, and behaviors\, the fun in discovery is boundle
 ss. Increase your comfort level with foraging for delicious edible species
 \, learn about potent medicinal mushrooms and their properties\, and be am
 azed by some of the most unique and fascinating species in the northwest. 
 This program is for both beginners and experienced foragers. During this c
 lass\, you will learn: Mushroom structure\, biology\, and reproduction Ide
 ntification factors and methods Common edible and medicinal species Toxic 
 lookalikes Substrate and tree associations Best foraging practices The rol
 e of fungi in forest ecology Program Logistics Class will take place at ou
 r school’s 60-acre property from 9am-4pm on Sunday\, November 8th. Food is
  not provided. Participants will be out in the field and will need to dres
 s accordingly. Restrooms and potable water are available. Meet Your Instru
 ctor Daniel Winkler Daniel grew up collecting and eating wild mushrooms in
  the Alps and is sharing his enthusiasm as a mushroom educator\, photograp
 her\, and guide. Daniel managed to bend his career as an ecologist and geo
 grapher focused on High Asia towards researching Tibet’s enormous fungal e
 conomy. His ethno-mycological Cordyceps research has been featured in Nati
 onal Geographic\, the New York Times\, NPR\, and the BBC. In the last deca
 de\, Daniel has been exploring neotropical fungi. With his travel agency M
 ushRoaming\, Daniel has been organizing mushroom-focused eco-adventures si
 nce 2007\, with current destinations in Bhutan and Colombia. He has been f
 oraging in the PNW for over 30 years.
