DESCRIPTION:North House is thrilled to welcome Featured Instructor Kirsi Ma
 nni\, a Swedish weaver and textile historian and conservator\, to Unplugge
 d 2026! Sweden’s richest and most beautiful band tradition is preserved in
  the Leksand folk costume and is protected by UNESCO as unique World Herit
 age. Band weaving is a proud tradition in Dalarna. Learn how these bands w
 ere used in everyday life\, and the traditions of the different patterns. 
 The Leksand band weavers have developed easy-to-use methods for warping an
 d managing the intricately patterned bands with up to 200 ends in thin sil
 k. In this class\, students will discover the secrets of a well managed wa
 rp. We will make both self patterning bands and pick up pattern weaving. T
 raditional bands can be used for more than folk costumes. Weave a unique b
 racelet\, individualize a key ring\, or personalize your shoelaces. Howeve
 r\, should you prefer to weave a band for traditional folk costume\, there
  are patterns and materials for that project as well. Bring your own Leksa
 nd band loom or rent a band loom with treadle when you attend. If you don'
 t have a loom or band knife you may rent a loom for the duration of class 
 for an additional fee of $35. Please note that inkle looms or other design
 s are not applicable for this class. Contact North House to request a loom
 . Loom rental requests must be received by June 30. Ages 14+ may register 
 for this class independently. Youth ages 10-13 may register if accompanied
  by an adult. Adult/child pairs will complete one project and pay one mate
 rials fee. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when reg
 istering with a full paying adult\; call to register. Skill/experience det
 ails: Some experience is advisable\, but not necessary. Projects can be cu
 stomized to individual level. Physical ability note: This class requires s
 itting at a band loom and the use of both hands and feet. This course is p
 art of Unplugged 2026. Kirsi will give a presentation on her work during t
 he weekend.
