DESCRIPTION:Warm\, weather-hardy\, comfortable hoods were commonplace in th
 e Viking Age\, the Medieval Period\, and beyond. During this one-day class
 \, students will sew their own woolen hood\, lined with a soft fabric so i
 t is both comfortable and fashionable. This hood pattern is based on an ar
 cheological find from Skjoldehamn\, Norway\, a well-studied bog body who w
 as wearing many woolen garments at the time of their entombment in the mar
 shes. We will practice basic sewing techniques\, simple garment constructi
 on\, some decorative hand-sewing\, and we will be creating ropes and tasse
 ls using the ancient practice of jugglebraiding. This class will involve l
 ots of hand-sewing. Skill/experience details: no experience needed\, begin
 ner-friendly. Required Tools All tools and materials will be provided Opti
 onal Tools Your own sewing kit\, embroidery thread\, decorative bands or r
 ibbons\, wool yarn for tassels and ties. Reading glasses if you need them 
 Session Information This course is part of the Winterers’ Gathering and Ar
 ctic Film Festival 2026. The fun begins on Friday morning\, with films\, s
 peakers\, and community gatherings planned all day November 20-21-22. Full
