DESCRIPTION:Two layers of thick willow bark woven together create the rich 
 texture of this tray. The weave is simple\, but students will gain experie
 nce in many aspects of weaving bark: cutting straight weavers from lumpy p
 ieces of bark\, using different weaver widths to create specific designs a
 nd looks\, and coping with the shrinkage of willow bark as it dries. The t
 ray will be finished with a folded willow bark rim and blanket stitch. Dur
 ing class we will discuss growing willow and harvesting bark from wild or 
 cultivated willows\, and some of the many ways to use this beautiful bark.
  Willow bark from Katherine’s farm in Northwest Washington will be used in
  class. The size of project baskets may vary\, but they will be approximat
 ely 11”x11”x 2.5”. Required Tools Small awl 16-32 small clips Scissors for
  cutting bark Optional Tools Rotary cutter Metal yardstick or quilting rul
 er (teacher/North House will provide these\, but you are welcome to bring 
 your own if you wish) Session Information This course is part of Basket We
 ek 2026. Plan to arrive a day early for the Gathering Day on Friday\, Octo
 ber 9\, which features demonstrations\, speakers\, and community gathering
 s offered as a benefit to students enrolled in Basket Week coursework. Ful
