Deerskin Mittens with Anishinaabe-Style Beadwork

Class

Up North, there's a saying that there's no bad weather, just the wrong clothes. Outfit yourself with the right sort of clothing to protect your body from the elements. In this course you will work with Marcie McIntire, Ojibwe cultural specialist and Grand Portage band of Lake Superior Chippewa member, to design, construct, and embellish a comfortable and warm pair of deerskin mittens to wear during the winter months. The mittens are ideal for daily wear, working outside, or long winter adventures. The basics of leather sewing will be taught in addition to the sewing of a warm wool lining. Explore Anishinaabe beadwork with Marcie and decorate the mittens with bead embroidery using your own design.
